2005 Spring Practice

Sunday January 30 scrimmage notes:

NOTES:

The day started overcast and chilly, in the mid 50's.   The sun eventually broke out, but it never got warm.

Health:

Porlier took some bullpen recently, throwing to live batters, but not during the scrimmage.  He is sticking to a set rehab schedule, and hopefully will be ready a couple of weeks into the season.

I saw that Goebel was iced down again today, so he must have also thrown some bullpen.  Not sure if it was against live batters, or not.

After getting the ok from the family, Jonathan Garrett is the freshman pitcher that is scheduled to get Tommy John surgery next weekend.   Jonathan is from the Northshore, and I wish him a speedy recover.

Nothing new to report on anyone else.  Same group of guys that have a little "tweak" - either can't run full speed, or can't throw at full velocity.

Other notes:

The usual Black team starting 2nd baseman is Holland, but today Everett spent some time at 2nd for the Black team.  He also spent some time behind the plate.  Holland still played 2nd, but it was for the Green team.  Whitman, who has been playing 2nd, was moved to SS.

Pitchers are starting to go 3 and 4 innings, starting to build up their stamina.   Just 12 days away from opening day!!!

Last note:

I attempt to be as accurate as possible on the play by play, but I also talk to people at the scrimmages, so there might be a mistake, here or there.   Please accept my apologies if I accidentally put something down that's not accurate.  Thanks.
